Just heard from my publisher that the first ever Dutch translation of my Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui book is nearing completion and will be available in the Netherlands from January 2010.

They have given it the title, Weg met de warboel, which Google Translate tells me means 'Away with the Clutter', but when I run the subtitle (ontdek de kracht van een opgeruimd leven) through the same translation engine, it rather worrying comes up with 'discover the power of a life destroyed'. Happily, when I put 'opgeruimd' through the translator as a single word, it comes up with 'tidy', so I'm hoping the true meaning of the subtitle is 'discover the power of a tidy life'. It's still not really what the book is about, but tidiness is infinitely preferable to devastation.

I've no idea why it has taken so long for my book to get published in the Netherlands, but it's a place I'd certainly like to teach in future because it's just a hop away from the UK and most Dutch people speak English. I have fond memories from my teenage years of sailing to Amsterdam via Calais on a tiny houseboat with three friends, braving high seas and dodging ocean going liners. The gods were certainly looking after us on that trip. It's a small miracle that we survived.

Thank you so much for your books! I just love them!!! I am thrilled to read that you want to teach in the Netherlands. I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands and would love to take your classes and workshops.

About the Dutch title of your book; the word 'warboel' does mean muddle or mess. I wonder why that word has been chosen because there is a perfect translation of the word 'clutter' which is 'rommel' in Dutch.

Don't worry about the subtitle; 'opgeruimd' also means 'declutterd'. So the subtitle is: 'discover the power of a decluttered life. Choosing the word 'opgeruimd' is especially good since it is also the word for a happy carefree mood!

Maybe it has taken so long to have your book published in the Netherlands, since almost everybody speaks English. So those who were open to learn your information could read your English version.

Thank you for your help with the translation, Jiska. I was hoping someone would cast some light on this. My guess is that Weg met de warboel rather than Weg met de rommel has been chosen because the alliteration of the two W's give the title a certain ring and makes it more memorable. And I like your version of the subtitle much better than Google's! I'm very interested to see how the book does in the Netherlands.
