Personal news

England it is, then

Written by Karen Kingston Wednesday, 21 July 2010 07:28

EnglandIt's now four months since Richard and I left Bali and my blog postings have been a bit thin on the ground for a while because we've been so busy house hunting.

We thought we'd probably make our new home in California but much to our surprise, we've decided to live in England. We stopped off in England on our way from California to continental Europe for a few weeks, then came back, and we like it so much that we've stayed.

We realize we first arrived when England was at its glorious springtime best and English winters can be long and cold. But we've totally fallen in love with the place, with its beautiful countryside, rolling hills, untamed hedgerows teeming with wildlife, and especially its Cotswold stone buildings. We also really like the sparkyness that has emerged here in the twenty years since I last lived here. People are far more aware and more receptive to new ideas than they used to be. And it's very well located for travel too. From here we can easily fly to the USA and all over Europe, as I'm sure we often will.

So England it is, then, and very happily so.

We've found a house to rent in a lovely rural location just an hour west of London. We have wild deer, squirrels, rabbits and pheasants in our garden and a view that stretches for miles. It's the perfect place to finish writing my new book and get to work on publishing ebooks and recording audio books. In Bali I designed, built and ran a hotel and conference centre and that was an invaluable experience, but it didn't leave me much time for writing and I felt far removed from the world. Now I have time and feel very much back in the world.

Why I like Twitter

Written by Karen Kingston Friday, 19 February 2010 08:13

TwitterI started using Twitter as an experiment last year and must say I've come to like it very much. It allows me to stay much more in touch with people and gives me instant feedback to the newsletters I send out. And the 140 character limit means I only get short, to the point comments or questions from people rather than long rambling emails.

To give a couple of examples of the feedback to the newsletter I sent out recently:

"Best of luck. Since you have a world of choices, I'll be so interested to learn where you settle...and why."

"Wishing you all the best. Hope you and Richard LOVE Californa - exciting times!"

There are also the more puzzled comments, such as:

"I can't believe you are leaving Bali. You talked about it so much in your books."

I don't even need 140 characters to reply to this. It's simple: I've been in Bali 20 years and I'm done. Life changes. It's time to move on.

If you haven't yet tried Twitter, follow this link to see how I'm using it...

Leaving Bali

Written by Karen Kingston Friday, 12 February 2010 06:18

Karen Kingsto's houseIt's the end of an era. I'm leaving Bali. After 20 years, I've done every amazing thing I came here to do and am ready to move on.

My husband, Richard, feels the same way. We've therefore decided not to wait until our house (pictured here) has been sold. We're leaving our loyal Balinese staff to look after it, placing the sale with a trusted agent, and have reduced the price substantially to speed up the process as much as possible. My hotel and conference centre was sold last month so there's nothing now to keep us here at all.

Our first stop will be California, USA in March 2010, and then Italy, Germany and the UK, where we have various things we want to do. We have no firm plans after that. We'll let everything unfold as it will.

I have to say I'm REALLY looking forward to living in the West again. It feels fantastic to be on the move.

I don't yet know when or where I'll be teaching workshops in future but I'll make announcements in newsletters as dates and locations are decided. I'm not ready to schedule anything for a while, though. I'm taking a break first, enjoying some rest. Richard and I first need to establish a new home base and then our new life will emerge from there.

Meditation retreat

Tuesday, 28 July 2009 11:47

Meditation retreatI arrived in the USA a few days ago and will be here for the next month. The photo to the right shows the misty early morning view from my bedroom window.

At least once (and usually twice) a year, I take time out from my busy schedule to do a meditation retreat, and on this occasion most of the professional space clearers I have trained are here too. So if any of you are wondering why it's so difficult to book a professional Space Clearing consultation anywhere in the world at the moment, this is why. Sorry about that!

On August 10, after the meditation retreat, I will be leading a 7-day Space Clearing practitioner intensive to pass on all the latest updates and skills. Attending one such intensive at least every two years is one of the requirements for continued Space Clearing practitioner registration, and most space clearers attend every year. Living so geographically distant as we do (we are spread all over the world), we really value this opportunity to meet and progress our work together. I'll be posting news and highlights in my blog in late August or early September.

But for now, as I immerse myself in the meditation retreat, there will be no more blogs from me for a while. Time to go inside.

Just got married!

Saturday, 21 July 2007 05:39

If you're wondering why there's been no blog for a while it's because I've been away on honeymoon. The wedding was a very quiet one with just a handful of close family guests here in Sydney, Australia. No stress, no fuss, no big announcements (until now). None of the usual marriage paraphernalia - just a beautifully clutter-free and totally enjoyable and relaxing event.

Most of you probably thought I already was married, and it’s true, I had a Balinese husband (Rai) for 12 wonderful years. We had a very amicable divorce, are still great friends, and still run the hotel we built in Bali together (Dancing Dragon Cottages). I mention this because many of you have read about him in my books or visited Bali and met him.

Richard SebokThe new love of my life is called Richard Sebok, he’s Australian and he’s about as different to Rai as anyone could possibly be. They must have some things in common, though, because they’ve become good friends (seriously, they get on really well).

Since meeting Richard two and a half years ago, our lives have become more and more interwoven, so marriage was an obvious step. He organizes my Aussie workshops, runs the Australiasian online store at spaceclearing.com, looks after the techie side of running the international online stores, and is so passionate about Space Clearing that he's become one of the top practitioners. And did I mention he's also an amazing body worker, an incredible cook (he was a 5-star chef for 17 years) and a talented ISIS practitioner? He's pretty special!

For the next 6 months we’ll be travelling together while I'm teaching in the USA, UK and Bali, and we'll also be exploring Italy and Hong Kong before heading back to Australia. Life is very good.

Wedding photos, do I hear you say? Here they are. It was a beautiful ceremony.
